Patriot of the Week: Drone Operators
I have written about drones often in the past (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), but what about the unsung heroes of the drone murders? The video game players that keep us safe? That’s right, this week’s Patriots of the Week are the drone operators.
Camped out behind computer screens back in the safety of the United States, these drone operators are able to murder thousands of pre-terrorists (as well as the next generation of pre-terrorists by taking out their wives and children). These heroes are so vital to our national security that the US now trains more drone operators than pilots. Watch out pre-terrorists (and kooks)!
Now the US government has finally realized that these heroes should be honored as well. According to The Verge:
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has announced a new medal for troops who fight from behind a screen. According to unnamed officials, the “Distinguished Warfare Medal” will honor members of the military who have performed an accomplishment “so exceptional and outstanding as to clearly set the individual apart from comrades or from other persons in similar situations.”
Better late than never I suppose.
